About Scalzo Hospitality

In 1952 Carmen Scalzo got into the Motel Construction business in Sacramento, California. Initially with two business partners, Carmen built the Crest and Sands Motels in Sacramento. By 1954 he independently built the Acienda, which he and his family operated a couple of years. In those days it was common for the Construction Company to operate and sometimes live and stay in the Motel until it was sold and they would take the capital to build the next property. When Disneyland opened in 1955 with hardly a hotel in sight, it wasn’t difficult for Carmen and his family to decide to move. In late 1957 Carmen purchased land across the street from Disneyland and built the Sands Motel in Anaheim, California. Next came the Desert Inn and finally in the spring of 1962, the Park Vue Inn. Although the Scalzo family has owned and leased hotels since 1952, Carmen and Mary’s daughters didn’t begin running their dad’s hotel until 1998. It was seven years later before they grew comfortable enough for expansion. Continuing their father’s values and legacy was far more important than accelerated growth and being in debt. It was in 2005 that the single operation of their father’s hotel in Anaheim became the nucleus of the family hospitality business. In 2008, the company expanded into food and beverage components. They opened a franchise of the Cold Stone Creamery on the Park Vue Inn property location. In 2009, in a move gain experience in a more citycentre environment and business friendly clientele, they purchased the Sheraton Four Points in Minneapolis, MN and converted it to the only Ramada Worldwide Plaza tier in the State of Minnesota, the Ramada Plaza Minneapolis. Shortly after the hotel rebranding process they opened Scalzo’s Italian Grille as the hotel’s restaurant, honoring their family’s legacy. Scalzo Hospitality, Inc. believes in the foundation of family traditions and experiences that shines through in the level of hospitality they provide to all of their guests at each property
